A classic event sponsored by Tierra de Sabor, and cosponsored by Avelino Vegas, now in its 31st edition. The competition aims to disseminate the sommelier culture and select the best professional who becomes the "Best Sommelier of Spain" and represents Spain in the ASI (Association de la Somellerie Internationale) World Sommelier Championship. It is structured in two parts: during the semifinal, which took place on Wednesday 15 April, the semi-finalist contestants faced a written exam, with either multiple choice or short answer questions and a written wine tasting. On the same day, both the sponsor, Tierra de Sabor, and the co-sponsor, the Avelino Vegas winery, held a master classes to showcase their wines.
The best competitors went through to the final, which took place on Thursday 16 April at the same venue, where they had to complete the following tasks: a quick test, an oral wine tasting, an incorrect wine list, identification of spirits, liqueurs and other beverages and finally decanting and serving a bottle of wine. Everything under the eyes of a jury formed by high level wine professionals.
