Pago de Larrainzar is the soul of our family and the tribute to our beautiful estate. This is a very special property, absolutely unique. It was bought by the Larrainzar family from the monks of the nearby Monastery of Irache. And it has been home to this family for over 160 years. It has beautiful gardens, full of centenary pines, fountains and ponds, surrounded by boxwood and flowers that embellish even more the magic of this house. Therefore, we wanted to reflect that special environment, embodying on the labels the beauty of French-style gardens.
The 2015 Cabernet Sauvignon, the third varietal bottling of the grape, was cropped from a vintage with excellent quality of the grapes. The weather was been very favorable due to the accumulated water reserve in the soil during winter and spring. This situation has favored that the vineyard has experienced a good evolution although the summer has been hot and dry. The grapes were destemmed and fermented with our own selected yeasts from our vineyards. We have sought a perfect integration between fruit and toasted notes, so its fermentation and refining was carried out in 2,000L French wood vats, where it remained for a year, before being bottled. It shows a bright cherry red color.
In the nose, it has a nice aroma of good intensity, with notes of its varietal character, as berries, pepper and mineral background. Its time in oak wood has provided it a discreet background of roasted coffee that brings sweetness. It is very fine wine, which fills the entire mouth, showing a discrete roughness, which announces a great structure, thanks to its well-tamed tannins. Good balance between power and freshness, fruit and oak, pleasure and finesse. Ready for consumption, this vintage has a huge projection over time in the bottle. This wine is an excellent ambassador of this land that endows with its own personality to one of the most recognized varietal grapes. Production: 2.699 bottles.
Pago de Larrainzar es una pequeña bodega familiar que retoma una tradición centenaria. El abuelo del actual propietario fundó la primera bodega en la casa familiar en 1891. Poseen 17 hectáreas de viñedo y elaboran únicamente vinos tintos, normalmente ensamblajes de sus cuatro variedades y en producciones limitadas.
La bodega cuenta con números premios en concursos internacionales y altas puntaciones en las guías más prestigiosas, como Guía Peñín o Wine Advocate Robert Parker.
La producción total es inferior a las 100.000 botellas por añada y en ciertas añadas y vinos son producciones limitadas a menos de 3.000 botellas.
Se trata de una bodega que apuesta por la calidad y la personalidad de sus vinos, con vendimia manual y crianza en barrica francesa.
La exportación es clave para Pago de Larrainzar y a día de hoy sus vinos están disponibles en mercados como Francia, Bélgica, Holanda, Dinamarca, Inglaterra, Rusia, Estados Unidos, Brasil, Méjico, China, Corea del Sur, Japón y Singapur.
En 2014 el Gobierno español les otorgó la Denominación de Origen Vino de Pago “Larrainzar”, a la espera de la aprobación internacional de la Comisión Europea.
El emplazamiento es único: una finca cerrada (al modo del “clos” francés) colindante con el Monasterio de Irache, a los pies de Montejurra. Ofrecen enoturismo de calidad, dando conocer, en un entorno cercano y amable, las bondades de un territorio vitícola de excepción.
