DEHESA DE LUNA FINCA RESERVA DE BIODIVERSIDAD
A biodiversity reserve estate turns its hand to wine.
When you gaze upon it, a Dehesa de Luna may appear to be a high quality wine with a major presence. And it is. However, you will be unaware of its origins, which make the wine highly desirable.
With a Dehesa de Luna you are drinking its origin.
When you enter the Dehesa de Luna estate and dozens of rabbits and partridges cross your path, while birds of prey circle overhead with their impressive wings, you feel like you are in a space which really is special. Then, after spending 10 minutes immersing yourself in those fields of La Mancha in the heart of Spain, you arrive at the winery and you understand what you are on the verge of experiencing. The space contains 3,000 hectares of untouched nature which fully impregnates a wine which is in a different class.
Its surroundings impregnate the wine.
Dehesa de Luna has guests. Aside from all of the wild animals that roam its estate, the show is stolen by its birds. So much so that they have made it onto its bottles. The range and character of each of its wines is indicated according to the symbolism of each bird. The meaning behind all of this has a lot to do with the sustainable philosophy of this brand of wines which is so very special.
An extraordinary philosophy.
Its producers stand by a philosophy which may appear crazy, inherent in the Spanish genius: only 3% of its Reserve Estate is used for wine production. 83 hectares, where they planted the first vineyards in 2001, with Merlot and Tempranillo vines; and in 2003, Syrah and Cabernet sauvignon. A story that would change in 2008 with the new plot, the Cañada del Navajo: 12.2 hectares of vineyards with Tempranillo, Cabernet sauvignon, Petit verdot, Graciano and Syrah, in a true winemaking masterclass.
Vineyards amongst nature that will be forever untouched.
This wine is certainly in another class. Because, additionally, they respect the nature that surrounds them, going into great detail regarding sustainability: Firstly, by using green roofs and the design of the vineyards, the watering and conduction systems. Followed by the incorporation of the wood from pruning into the ground. And lest we forget the fact that everything there feeds itself, generating a harmonious circle of life, as they use the renewable energy produced in their own photovoltaic park.
A mosaic of multi-coloured mazes.
From the highest point of the estate, you can see with your own eyes that they not only produce wine. A spectacular mosaic of greens, yellows, browns and oranges can also be admired, alternating and complementing each other. Each colour is a cereal crop, a forest area, a small olive grove, a field of almond trees, another forest, some vineyards, an oak tree. Everything there coexists and produces their yield with balance, as production is ecological and integrated with the surroundings. Some of their products are already on the market. Others, made possible by nature, will soon be available to for you to enjoy.
