This artisanal vermouth is made with native plants from Catalonia’s Ponent region, mostly wild, which have shaped its character for generations. Its maceration in wine takes us on a sensory journey through vineyards, olive trees, thyme fields and scrublands of the Ponent region.
First, we find the bitterness provided by the combination of three artemisias and the smoothness of the Arbequina olive, and then, the sweetness of the wild fruits (figs, pomegranates, wild cherries, rose hips...).
Caràcter is a bitter, aromatic vermouth of extraordinary quality.
It is Catalonia’s first 100% certified organic vermouth, and it is also low in sugar (100 grams/litre), as half of its sweetener is concentrated wine must.
It is handcrafted at our own workshop, in Arbeca, in collaboration with researchers from Àlquia Produccions Enològiques and the ethnobotanist Airy Gras.
It has been awarded the prize for Best Innovative Vermouth at the Premis Vinari of Catalan Vermouths (editions 2022 and 2024). These awards are the most renowned in the Catalan wine and vermouth sector. The jury is made up of professional tasters who carry out a completely blind tasting.
We are a cooperative that crafts artisanal vermouths and traditional liqueurs. We are based in Arbeca, a village located in the province of Lleida in Catalonia, where we have our own workshop. All our products are crafted by artisans using the best quality materials, including local raw fruits, organic and manually harvested by ourselves.
We were born in 2016 with the aim of promoting a Catalan traditional liqueur: Vi de Nous or walnut wine. Along the years, we have produced new artisanal drinks: the sloe liqueur or patxaran Nyons, the first-ever organic vermouth crafted in Catalonia, Caràcter, and the first-ever organic ratafia without added sugar, NVA.
We are a non-profit local development cooperative with the aim of promoting social transformation. So everything we do, we do it with a focus on our land and its people. And we do it with two clear themes: agroecology and social and solidarity economy, which for us are both related to each other.
