Along the seabed between the Isla de Cortegada and the parish of Carril is a sandbank where the 1.283 parques are located in which a bivalve is grown that stands out for its high meat yields, texture and incomparable flavour: The Carril Clam.
A product of the utmost quality that has earned a name all its own in the international gastronomic sphere, and that, since 2019, has boasted an official seal " Almeja de Carril.De los Parquistas de Carril" thereby establishing a brand guaranteeing the product´s origins and traceability.
The success of the Carril Clam has been no accident, but rather a result of the work carried out since 1989 by the Parquistas de Carril, advocates who, since its foundation, have striven to manage, defend and coordinate the common interests of the group´s members, working to beat new paths, improve future prospects and ensure the viability of their products on the market. In all more than 650 families live directly from an aquaculture sector steeped in over 500 years of history. This is an artisanal trade that can only be taught and learned by practicing it year after year, always with the aim of obtaining the very best clams, one of the most prized and consumed delicacies. It is a vocational trade, and a tough one, enticing and seducing those who exercise it, rewarding them with those little bites of the sea called Almejas de Carril.
With an environment and a product of these characteristics, it is essential to promote it and exploit all its potential. Thus, the body for the defense and promotion of the quality of the Carril Clam is Parquistas de Carril OPP89.
Parquistas de Carril OPP89 looks forward to the achievement of a series of ambitious goals. Always constantly progressing, growing and evolving.
