Riedel once again have proved its pioneering role when it comes to the functional wine glass, unveiling Riedel Superleggero made by machine at its own factory in Weiden, Germany. “The new Riedel Superleggero is a masterpiece of state-of-the-art technology. The Bordeaux glass is the largest, lightest, thinnest, and most functional machine glass on the market today. The motivation to replace the original handmade version lies in the perfection of a machine-made glass compared to handmade. Because Riedel glasses are finely tuned instruments that support your enjoyment of wine, we must ensure that there is no variation in the design of the goblet and mouth rim diameter, as this is key to our varietal-specific philosophy,” says Maximilian J. Riedel, visibly proud. Machine production of such a thin-walled and perfectly balanced glass series was not possible with familiar technology. Once again, however, Riedel lived up to its position as a technical pioneer and developed in-house machine technology that is capable of producing glasses by machine to a quality that is difficult to distinguish from handmade and mouth-blown glasses. The new bases are up to 106 mm in diameter, which is a new technical record. The glasses in the Superleggero series are available in 8 different sizes. New in the range are a Sauvignon Blanc glass and a Spirits glass.
