Finalist Cheeses
About 900 samples, 60 judges, two qualifying rounds, 20 categories, 60 finalists and 1 overall winner are the ingredients of the most prestigious cheese championship in Spain.
Once again, GourmetQuesos returns to choose the best national cheeses by evaluating aspects such as rind, colour, texture, smell, flavour, aftertaste and persistence of each of the samples.
As a novelty, this year ICEX, España Exportación e Inversiones is launching a new category: "Cheese from Spain Awards", which aims to support Spanish cheese makers with export capacity (to participate in this category, you must register first on the Salón Gourmets website and later on the ICEX website).
The championship consists of two phases:
Semi-final: On 5 and 6 March, the 100 finalist cheeses will be chosen (5 per category).
Final: At the Salon Gourmets, the winners of the 20 categories are chosen. The top finishers in each category will be examined by 20 judges who will choose the "Best Cheese of Spain".
