The Almazara de la Vega, formerly known as Almazara Vega del Andarax, was born in the late 90s in the town of Canjáyar (Almería) with the aim of uniting all the villages of the Andarax River that are part of the historic land of the Alpujarra , known for its rich agricultural and livestock tradition. In the memory of all the inhabitants of the Andarax River there is a recent past of splendor, linked to the wealth that the grape has provided but the idea of all the oil mills that were in the area by the olive cultivation, forgotten by the grape, also persists but that at present, it is the agro-economic engine of the region. In 1804 in the region there were soap factories that were made with olive oil. From the 30s to the 70s there were up to 7 oil mills, including those of Almocita and Illar. Later, in the late 90's the Almazara de la Vega would be born.
The Almazara de la Vega was founded by a group of farmers in the area, whose descendants are, together with the so-called "friends of the oil and the Alpujarra", the current partners. Each and every one of the people linked to the Almazara de la Vega know how to appreciate the good things in our particular way of understanding life and participate in our traditions by betting and investing in our land and in the yellow gold produced by our Almazara. The Almazara de la Vega has been awarded by the Andalusian board for the energy savings carried out at the facilities, all for the improvement of the quality of a product demanded throughout the Spanish orography. There are many children and neighbors of the Andarax River who like to taste the delicacy that the Almazara de la Vega produces, an oil with natural aromas reminiscent of orange blossom and grapevine, where the piglet, Maltese and Arbequina olives predominate, so they take advantage to climb on Sundays where there is milling, in addition to trying it, they take the opportunity to visit the Almazara and teach the little ones the production process of ANDARAX extra virgin olive oil.
