The Virgen del Galir winery is located in Éntoma, a tiny village by the Galir River in the Province of Ourense, which incorporates the Valdeorras Denominacion de Origen (DO) in the Galicia region of northwest Spain. Founded in 2002, Virgen del Galir is a member of the Valdeorras DO. The winery owns and farms 20 hectares/50 acres of mostly terraced vineyards at 2,000 feet/600 meters of altitude with soils made up almost entirely of decomposed schist, slate and chalk. The climate is continental with Atlantic influences. Annual precipitation ranges from 700 – 1,000 millimeters/27 – 40 inches per year. Winters are cold and summers are very warm.
