NIC is a wine from Bodegas J.A. Calvo Casajús. Behind it all is José Alberto Calvo Casajús, a winemaker following great family tradition from the municipality of Quintana del Pidio, belonging to the Ribera del Duero Designation of Origin (Denominación de Origen). NIC has been made with grapes from small vineyards, that are less than one hectarea, in the area named El Montecillo; planted by our family in the year 1920. Today, they have a controlled production of approximately 1 kg of grapes per vine. The pruning style used is Gobelet; and the variety of grape used is 100% the native grape, Tempranillo (Tinta del País), a noble variety that gives color, aroma, and body to this wine.
NIC is made, following a new concept of “vinification in barrel”, in 500 liter French Oak barrels from Tronçais. The entire process of vinification, maceration, fermentation, and ageing, has a duration of 24 months; this process allows for a very careful and artisan vinification, in order to obtain the best qualities from the grapes. NIC is the result of the greatest respect for viticulture and the traditional processes of Ribera del Duero.

Casajús or Casajús Winery, in Spanish: Bodegas Casajús, is a Spanish fine winery. It is situated in the town of Quintana del Pidio (province of Burgos, Spain), in the Protected Designation of Origin (Denominación de origen) Ribera del Duero. Over generations, the Calvo and Casajús families developed their own family wines, although it was not until 1993 that José Alberto Calvo Casajús founded the winery. The winery gained international recognition thanks to the great appraisals from the American wine magazine, Robert Parker’s The Wine Advocate.
In 2013 the winery received the highest scores in Ribera del Duero from the British critic, Neal Martin, for the American magazine Robert Parker’s The Wine Advocate. The NIC 2009 wine was awarded 97 points and Casajús Viñedos Antiguos wine received 95 points, this triggered the receipt of international media attention.
