USA surrenders to the quality of 12 Linajes, Ribera del Duero wine

Soria, Spain. April 2018.- The Spanish wine 12 Linajes Reserva 2012 was awarded with 94 points and the Editor’s Choice selection in the last edition of the important American magazine Wine Enthusiast. In addition to this recognition, 12 Linajes Crianza also accomplished 92 points, emphasizing on the quality of the wines made by Viñedos y Bodegas Gormaz (Hispanobodegas Group). The American magazine, which is one of the most recognized publications in the wine sector internationally, has included 12 Linajes Reserva and Crianza into the podium (on its April edition), becoming them the two only Spanish wines which such a high punctuation. Hispanobodegas Group feels very proud for all these accomplishments, that are just the result of all the effort, hard work, quality on the process and investment that the company has been realizing through the last years in all its wineries.

Besides, and working hand by hand with the young oenologist, María José García, these special wines are made from the most extreme part of the Denomination of Origin Ribera del Duero. The situation of the vineyard, the weather that changes constantly, such as the altitude and conditions of the environment, give us the opportunity to make great wines as the ones from Viñedos y Bodegas Gormaz. Furthermore, Mª José’s philosophy based on terroir, quality and good work, makes her clear that different high quality wines can be made, wines that can be highly recognized national and internationally.

12 Linajes Reserva 2012

It is a Reserva made with the intention of showing the different expressions of the Tinto Fino or Tempranillo variety when the soil variable is modified in the same area (Atauta) characterized by very low production vineyard (age +130 years and in glass). 12 Linajes Reserva is made from a mixture of vineyards located on slopes, páramo and valley bottom in Atauta. The harvest is made coinciding with the optimum point of maturation of the grape and once the first fermentation is carried out, the malolactic fermentation takes place in French oak barrels. After 24 months of aging, it rests in the bottle for, at least, another 12 months.

In tasting, it shows a cherry red, intense and brilliant. Complex and elegant, predominating red and black fruits with balsamic notes. It shows a silky greasy, sweet and full palate, with ripe tannins and intense balsamic and roasted coffee notes.

12 Linajes Crianza 2014

It is a wine that has been made with a selection of grapes by sites and a three-day pre-fermentation maceration at 4 to 6ºC, in order to make easier the extraction of aromas, such as a controlled temperature fermentation of 28ºC for 10 days and post-fermentation maceration of 10 days. After the malolactic fermentation, the wine has rested in French and American oak barrels for 12 months, rounded in the bottle for minimum 12 months.

In tasting, it shows a cherry red, intense and brilliant, with a complex, structured and velvet palate, such as a persistent finish.

Bodegas y Viñedos Gormaz, from Hispanobodegas Group

Founded in 1972, Viñedos y Bodegas Gormaz is a veteran winery in the D.O. Ribera del Duero, having been part of the founding group of the Denomination. Although the first record of the C.R.D.O Data of the Ribera del Duero of 1980, this Denomination of Origin was officially constituted in 1982 with 12 registered wineries, among which are Viñedos and Bodegas Gormaz. The winery currently has 232 hectares of vineyard distributed in more than 1000 small farms grouped in about 70 places. It is one of the longest areas in the country, with an average age of 65 years, with 70% of the vineyard aged over 80 years. The winery manages the vineyard with long-term agreements with vine growers in the area, which allows intervention in the processes of maturation and selection of the grape, guaranteeing the highest quality year by year.
